Sculptures are works of visual art, designed in three dimensional form. Viewers often gaze in amazement at the detail and intricacies of sculptures, delicately painted to perfection. Sculptures are typically made from clay, marble, stone, glass and wood, carved and molded. Sculptures can be both free-standing, or placed on a base.
The four basic types of art sculptures:
Molded sculptures are typically made out of clay, wax or papier-mache.
Cast sculptures entail a process of modeling the design, then creating a mold and casting it onto a another medium.
Carved sculptures are made out of dense materials, such as marble. The most famous carved sculpture is Michelangelo's Pieta, which took years to make.
Assembled sculptures are composed of different pieces of material, that are put together based on the intended form.
